Why This World Cruise Is Different
Some journeys are defined by individual destinations. Others are memorable because of the scale of the experience.
The 2029 Grand World Odyssey brings together destinations that would ordinarily require numerous separate holidays. In one continuous voyage, guests can experience the islands of the South Pacific, cross the Panama Canal, explore the Mediterranean and Northern Europe, sail through the Norwegian fjords and Iceland, visit the east coast of Canada and the United States, and return to Australia through South America and French Polynesia.
Along the way, the voyage includes a full transit of the Panama Canal’s new locks in both directions, scenic cruising near Easter Island and Pitcairn Island, and additional time ashore in selected destinations.
For Australian travellers, it provides the rare opportunity to begin and end a true world journey close to home.

The Grand World Journey Itinerary
The Sydney voyage begins with calls in Brisbane before Grand Princess travels into the islands of the South Pacific.
Noumea, Mystery Island, Suva, Tonga and Rarotonga introduce the journey with tropical landscapes, island cultures and warm Pacific hospitality. These opening destinations also give guests time to settle into the rhythm of life aboard before the longer crossings begin.
The South Pacific appears again near the end of the voyage, with visits to Tahiti and Moorea before Grand Princess crosses the International Date Line and returns to Auckland, Tauranga, Norfolk Island and Sydney.
After crossing the Pacific, the voyage reaches Costa Rica before continuing to Fuerte Amador and one of its defining experiences: a full transit of the Panama Canal’s new locks.
Grand Princess is scheduled to pass through the Agua Clara and Cocoli locks, connecting the Pacific Ocean with the Caribbean Sea.
Calls in Cartagena, Aruba and Barbados then bring together colonial architecture, Caribbean culture and tropical coastlines before the voyage crosses the Atlantic towards Europe.
Later in the journey, guests will experience the Panama Canal in the opposite direction, completing a second full transit on the return towards the Pacific.
Cruiseco Tip: Make the canal crossing a full-day experience
A Panama Canal transit is best experienced from several areas of the ship. Begin on an open deck for the approach, then move between forward, side and aft viewpoints as Grand Princess passes through the locks.
The European chapter begins with Madeira and Tenerife before continuing to Cádiz for Seville and the historic gateway of Gibraltar.
The Mediterranean itinerary includes Corsica, Livorno for Florence and Pisa, Elba, Civitavecchia for Rome, Barcelona and Cartagena. Together, these calls provide access to renowned architecture, historic cities, coastal landscapes and some of Europe’s most celebrated cultural sites.
Rather than requiring a separate Mediterranean holiday, these destinations form part of one continuous journey from Australia.

A late-night call in Lisbon provides additional time to explore the Portuguese capital before Grand Princess travels towards Ireland and the United Kingdom.
The itinerary includes Galway, Killybegs, Glasgow, Dublin and Cork, followed by Dover for London. From medieval streets and dramatic Atlantic landscapes to major cultural capitals, this section offers a varied introduction to western and northern Europe.
The Cork call also provides access to Blarney Castle, while Dover serves as the gateway to London and as an additional embarkation point for the voyage.
From Dover, the voyage continues to Zeebrugge for Brussels and Bruges, followed by IJmuiden for Amsterdam, Skagen and Copenhagen.
Grand Princess then travels into Norway, visiting Kristiansand, Stavanger, Nordfjordeid and Skjolden. The itinerary combines Scandinavian cities with the mountains, waterways and steep-sided landscapes of the Norwegian fjords.
A call at Runavik in the Faroe Islands provides another distinctive northern destination before the voyage reaches Iceland.

Reykjavik and Isafjordur provide opportunities to experience Iceland’s volcanic landscapes, coastal scenery and distinctive Nordic culture.
Grand Princess then crosses the North Atlantic towards Canada, visiting Corner Brook, Gaspé, Charlottetown, the Îles de la Madeleine, Sydney in Cape Breton Island, Halifax and Saint John for the Bay of Fundy.
The ship then reaches New York City, where a late-night stay allows guests more time to experience one of the world’s great cities.
This part of the voyage brings together natural scenery, smaller coastal communities and major metropolitan destinations within a single Atlantic crossing.
After New York, Grand Princess sails to Miami and Grand Cayman before returning to the Panama Canal.
Following the second full canal transit, the itinerary calls at Manta in Ecuador and continues to Peru.
An overnight stay in Lima, accessed through Callao, provides additional time for guests to explore the city and its surrounding cultural attractions. The voyage then visits Pisco before setting out across the Pacific.
Two of the most distinctive experiences occur during the final Pacific crossing.
Grand Princess is scheduled to undertake scenic cruising near Easter Island, one of the world’s most isolated inhabited islands and home to the famous moai statues.
The journey also includes scenic cruising near Pitcairn Island, where descendants of the Bounty mutineers settled. Its remote position and limited accessibility make it a destination very few travellers ever have the opportunity to see.
These are scenic cruising experiences rather than conventional port visits. Viewing will depend on weather, sea conditions and operational requirements.
World cruises and grand voyages are planned several years in advance. As a result, destinations, ports of call, overnight stays and voyage durations may be revised by the cruise line prior to departure. Travellers should consider all itinerary details as indicative until final documentation is issued by the cruise line.
More Time Ashore
The 2029 Grand World Odyssey includes nine More Ashore experiences, giving guests longer to explore selected destinations.
Highlights include:
- An overnight stay in Lima, Peru
- A late-night visit to Lisbon
- A late-night visit to New York City
Longer stays can provide time for evening dining, cultural performances, extended sightseeing or excursions travelling further from the port.
Exact arrival and departure times should always be checked before arranging independent activities.
More Than 50 UNESCO World Heritage Sites
Across five continents, the itinerary provides access to more than 50 UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Depending on the excursions selected, guests may have opportunities to experience historic city centres, archaeological locations, important cultural landmarks and protected natural environments.
Rather than concentrating on one region, the Grand World Odyssey presents these places as part of a wider global story, linking cultures and landscapes across the Pacific, the Americas and Europe.
Sailing Aboard Grand Princess
For 129 days, Grand Princess becomes much more than transportation between destinations. It becomes your home as you travel around the world.
Days at sea provide time to enjoy the ship’s dining, entertainment, activities and open decks, while also creating space to relax between destination-rich sections of the journey.
On a voyage of this length, everyday considerations become particularly important. Cabin location, storage, laundry arrangements, dining choice, access to outdoor spaces and comfortable places to relax can all influence the experience.
Guests should choose their cabin for the way they expect to live over several months, rather than approaching the decision as they would for a short cruise.
Choosing Your Cabin
Cabin selection is particularly important on a voyage of this length.
An interior cabin can make the complete journey more accessible and may suit guests who expect to spend most of their time elsewhere on the ship. An oceanview cabin provides natural light, while a balcony gives you private outdoor space throughout the voyage.
A balcony can be especially valuable during scenic cruising and on extended sea-day passages, although weather conditions will affect how often the outdoor area can be used. Suites provide additional living space and benefits but represent a significantly higher overall investment.
Location should also be considered. Some travellers prefer convenient access to dining or open decks, while others value a quieter position away from high-traffic areas. Accessible cabins and preferred balcony locations may be limited, so early planning can provide more choice.
Cruiseco Tip: Choose your cabin for 129 days
Consider natural light, storage, proximity to lifts, access to open decks and the amount of private space you will want. A cabin that feels suitable for a one-week holiday may feel very different during a four-month journey.
