Quick Verdict
Best For: Couples and premium travellers seeking a modern, stylish cruise.
Not Ideal For: Travellers wanting high-energy attractions or large-scale family-focused features.
Celebrity Edge delivers a more refined and contemporary cruise experience, combining design-led spaces, strong dining and a relaxed onboard atmosphere. It stands out from traditional large ships by focusing more on quality, service and ambience rather than high-adrenaline attractions, making it a strong option for Australian travellers looking for a more upscale ocean cruise.
What we Loved
- The ship design feels modern, open and genuinely different from traditional cruise layouts
- Dining is a standout, with a high level of quality across both included and specialty venues
- Public spaces feel less crowded due to thoughtful layout and flow
- The Magic Carpet is a unique feature that enhances both design and functionality
- Overall atmosphere is relaxed, premium and well suited to longer itineraries
Things to Know
- This is not a “high-energy” ship, there are no waterslides or theme-park style attractions
- The experience leans more toward couples and adults than younger families
- Specialty dining comes at an additional cost, and can be worth planning ahead
- Some passengers may find the modern design a departure from traditional cruise ships
- Suite-level guests and Retreat access significantly elevate the onboard experience
Ship Overview
Celebrity Edge was the first in Celebrity’s Edge Class and marked a major shift in cruise ship design, featuring:
- A more outward-facing, open design
- Innovative spaces such as the Magic Carpet platform
- Reimagined dining concepts with multiple main dining venues
- A more boutique, luxury-inspired onboard feel
The ship blends contemporary style with premium service, positioning itself between mainstream cruising and luxury.
Cabins
Cabins on Celebrity Edge are modern and well-designed, with a strong emphasis on space and comfort:
- Infinite Veranda cabins replace traditional balconies, creating more usable indoor space
- Balcony-style experience with floor-to-ceiling windows that open
- Suites offer access to The Retreat, a dedicated luxury area with private dining and lounge
Overall: contemporary, comfortable cabins with a clear step-up in premium categories
We sailed in an Infinite Veranda Stateroom, cabin 9133. The fit out is modern with a clean, light colour pallette. The Infinite Veranda has French doors which provides flexibilty to have the room set up more like a traditional balcony if weather permits. It’s a different feeling to a traditional balcony, but works well in a cooler climate.
Dining
Dining is one of the highlights of Celebrity Edge:
- Multiple main dining restaurants with different cuisines
- High-quality included dining compared to many competitors
- Specialty restaurants offer a more premium, experience-led option
Tip: Travellers who enjoy dining will get strong value from exploring both included and specialty venues
As well as the included dining options, we dined in Le Grand Bistro for French and Eden Restaurant. Eden’s position at the aft of the ship made for a scenic dining experience.
Entertainment
- Focused on immersive shows, music and smaller venue experiences
- Less about large-scale headline shows, more about atmosphere and quality
- A good match for travellers who prefer a more refined evening experience
Entertainment and shows felt modern and contemporary compared to the more traditional experiences on some ships. Venue’s were well sized so the performers weren’t too far away. The Grand Plaza, at the heart of the ship, turns into a silent disco late at night. It’s a great experience, and not as silent as you think it’s going to be!
Overall Onboard Experience
- Relaxed, stylish and premium feel
- Less crowded than many ships in this category
- Strong focus on service, dining and overall guest comfort
The outdoor space on Edge is quite striking in terms of design. With the Pool Deck, Rooftop Garden, Cabanas and the Magic Carpet, you can enjoy a different space at any time. The Magic Carpet is the signature experience of the Edge class ships, and it’s certainly a great spot to eat or drink, however it’s very weather dependent.
Who This Ship Is Best For
Ideal for:
- Couples and adult travellers
- Guests seeking a more premium, design-led cruise
- Travellers who prioritise dining, relaxation and atmosphere
- Guests looking for a step up from mainstream cruise lines
Less suited for:
- Families with younger children looking for high-energy attractions
- Travellers wanting waterslides or large-scale onboard activities
- Guests seeking ultra-luxury small-ship cruising
Final Verdict
Celebrity Edge successfully redefines the large-ship cruise experience with a more modern, premium and design-forward approach.
For Australian travellers, it’s an excellent option for those looking to elevate their cruise experience without moving fully into the luxury segment, particularly for couples or travellers who value great dining, stylish spaces and a more relaxed onboard atmosphere.
